| Owners, Darrell and Don Urban, are the third generation owners of Midwestern Propane Gas Company. Their grandparents and founders, A.J. and Martha Urban, opened offices in Red Bud, Illinois in 1936, selling butane, a new energy fuel for cooking and heating, to customers from Cairo to Chicago. Today, the torch has been passed to the next generation of Urbans with Darrell and Don's nephew, Mark Urban, leading the way as Manager of Hearthside Grill & Fireplace, Ltd.
The business thrived as the Urbans established a reputation for dependability and service. In the early 1950s, the company moved to its present location on South Belt East in Belleville.
As the market and technology changed, so did Midwestern Propane Gas Company. In the 1960s, sales of gas grills and gas logs were added. By the mid-1980s, demand for high-quality leisure products grew and the Urbans responded with Hearthside Grill & Fireplace, Ltd.
Hearthside Grill & Fireplace Ltd. opened the doors to its showroom in Belleville, Illinois in 2000. Today, Hearthside Grill & Fireplace is the place to shop for hearth and home in southern Illinois, where the Urban family's roots run deep.
